ALBERT MILTON SAFETY LEADERSHIP AWARD

The Albert Milton Safety Leadership Award is an annual Safety Award that will recognise outstanding advances in safety, singling out those that have made a significant impact on safety or by advancing the elimination of fatalities across the business. The award is named after the late Albert Milton, Managing Director of Debswana, who was a true safety leader and his memory inspires many to do more to keep safe at work and at home. It is sponsored by Bruce Cleaver, De Beers Group CEO. The winning individual or team will receive an engraved medal and a certificate signed by the De Beers Group CEO and have their name(s) inscribed on the Albert Milton Safety Leadership Award trophy, and be in a possession of the trophy for one year following their win. In addition, the winning individual or team will be allocated a budget for implementing or scaling their safety ideas in the year following their win. And will be photographed with the De Beers group CEO. While the runner-up individuals or teams will receive runner-up engraved medals, certificates signed by the De Beers Group CEO and get an opportunity to be photographed with the De Beers Group CEO. The nomination will closes on 17 July 2020, is open to all employees, teams and contractors. There will be one winning individual or team, and tow runner-up or teams, announced on 14 October 2020 at the Global Safety Day.
WHO WILL QUALIFY?
The award is open to any individual, team or contractor who has / have gone above and beyond to demonstrate
sustained and measurable safety leadership, where employees, teams and contractors were made safer because of strategies and initiative that were implemented. For team nomination, at least not more than five members who actively participated in the initiate will be submitted.
DETAILS OF THE INITIATIVE
• Describe how the initiative has suitably and measurably improved safety processes, competencies, controls and/or
behaviours (max.750 words)
• Describe how the development and implementation of the initiatives demonstrates leadership. This could include the Leading Brilliance commitments (Listen to Understand; Spark Fresh Thinking; Engage Diverse Views; Simplify Relentlessly; Take Bold Action; Succeed Together) or other leadership behaviours (max 500 words).
• Describe how the individual or team worked in a way that puts one or more of De Beers Group

values – Put safety First; Be Passionate; Pull Together; Build Trust; Show we Care; and Shape the Future – into action to an outstanding degree (max 500words).
• Any further comments to support the nomination, are encouraged (max 500 words).
Please note, diagrams, photography or additional collateral can be included as part of your submission. These will need to be attached when you submit the nomination form. More importantly, pay more attention to the
Evaluation Criteria in Table 1, below.
HOW WILL I/WE QUALIFY?
The nomination individuals/teams or contactors will have to meet the following criteria. Only those persons that meet these requirement will be considered for the award. Final nominations are judged by an elected committee within the De Beers Group.
